2019 Annual Beavers Camp

Date: Saturday 8th June – Sunday, 9th June 2019

Drop off: Meet at 2pm, in Lough Keel Scout campsite.  (Please note: this is a different place to Lough Key Forest Park!)Please drop off at picnic bench just inside entrance of campsite

Collect from same place at 10.00am Sunday

Cost: €20 per child (includes campsite fees, activity and food costs) / €35for two siblings

Consent form:     A consent form must be fully completed for the camp. If needed, a Medications form must also be completed.

Please return the forms at this week’s meeting so we know exactly who will be coming.

Wear: Neckerchief, old clothes and sturdy footwear

Kit list:                   

  • Sleeping bag and camping mat
  • Torch with new batteries
  • Warm night clothes
  • Raingear and warm jacket / fleece
  • Spare full changes of clothes (x2)
  • Walking boots / wellies / strong runners
  • Plastic bag for wet gear
  •  Spare footwear
  • Cup, plate, bowl, knife, fork, spoon
  • Hi-viz vest
  • Toothbrush / toiletries
  • Towel
  • Sun cream, after-sun cream
  • Cuddly toy

Not allowed: Video camera, mobile phones, games consoles, iPods, tablets, etc. are NOT allowed.

To be fair to all, there are no sweets / treats / soft drinks, etc. allowed.  We will have some goodies for them.

If we see any child with electronics / sweets, etc., we will confiscate them and give them back when they are going on Sunday.

Pocket money:    Not required (we will run our own tuck shop and give each child an allowance from the camp fee to spend in the tuck shop)

  • On N4, drive past entrance of Lough Key Forest Park on your left.
  • Continue approx. 750 metres, then turn left onto L5063.
  • Continue approx. 1.1km, turn left at t-junction.
  • Continue 160 metres, campsite entrance is on right hand side.

Beavers overnight to Lissadell

The Beavers are going on an overnight trip to Lissadell on Friday, 1st March

Times: Meet at 7.00pm, Friday in Lissadell Church of Ireland parish hall (directions attached) Collect from same place at 10am Saturday.

Wear:Neckerchief, old clothes and sturdy footwear

Kit list:
Sleeping bag and groundmat
Torch with new batteries
Warm night clothes
Raingear and warm jacket / fleece
Spare full change of clothes
Plastic bag for wet gear
Spare footwear
Hi-viz vest
Toothbrush / toiletries
Towel
Cuddly toy!

Mobile phones, games consoles, iPods, iPads, tablets, etc. are NOT allowed.

Please do not allow your child to bring sweets / treats / soft drinks. We will have treats for them. Any extra sweets, etc. that are brought will be held by the leaders and returned at the end of the trip.

Directions from Ballisodare to Lissadell Church of Ireland Hall (approx. 30 minute drive):

Head towards Sligo on the N4, continue to Bundoran Road.

Go through Drumcliffe, then take left turn towards Carney.

From Carney, continue round on the main road to the left for 4.5km.

At a crossroads, you will see a sign on the left for Lissadell house, and a sign on the right for Lissadell Church of Ireland. Turn right.

The parish hall is just on the right hand side (grey-brick building with red window frames).

Cost will be approx €10-15.
Consent forms and Medications form (if needed) can be printed off from the link below and brought to the next meeting or on Friday night. A beaver cannot attend the camp if the consent form is not filled in.

Beaver’s Overnight in Rosses Point

The Beavers are going on an overnight trip to Rosses Point Den on Friday, 23rd November.

Times: Meet at 7.00pm, Friday at the Scout Den in Rosses Point (beside the Yacht Club) Collect from same place at 11am Saturday.

Cost: €10

Lough Keel Beaver Camp June 2018

Beavers from 13th Ballisodare and 2nd Sligo went to Lough Keel on the 16th to the 17th for their summer camp. A very enjoyable weekend was had by everyone. The beavers had so much fun playing games, undertaking activities in the woods and sitting around the camp fire singing songs and toasting marshmallows.  Many thanks to everyone for participating and making it an enjoyable event. See you all Next Year

 

Scouts end-of-year camp

Our end of year camp is fast approaching, so please see details below!

Consent forms / Collecting money:
All those going on camp need to fill out the Consent form for the water activities.  Click on right to download Water activities consent form.IMG_2945-1

Complete the above form and bring it with you on Thursday, 21st June, 7.30pm, Corhownagh Hall.
If you are able to pay on Thursday (either full amount of deposit of €20), that would be very helpful as we need to collect money so that we can purchase camp supplies in advance.

Camp cost is €60 per person. We would not like cost to prevent any Scout for attending the camp however, so please do please free to talk to us in confidence.

Drop off / Pick up:
Meet on Friday, 29th June, 6pm, at Sligo Archery Club (click here for map and directions).
Pick up again from same place, 11.30am on Sunday, 1st July.

Camp details:
The campsite is on the lake shore at Temple House. This is a ‘back to basics’ campsite (i.e. a field) in a lovely venue. We will be getting in two portaloos and will set up a dedicated wash tent as well. Our main activity on the Saturday afternoon is with Wet Wild Adventures Sligo. Scouts will be taking the lead as much as possible over the weekend – pitching their own tents, cooking, cleaning, etc.

Wear:
Warm clothes, suitable footwear, neckerchief.

Kit list:
Packed lunch for Friday evening (we will be giving Scouts a hot supper also, but Scouts should have their dinner before they leave for the camp on Friday)
Sleeping bag, isomat / air bed, small pillow (optional), sleeping clothes
Toiletries
Torch with fresh batteries
Spare clothes, spare footwear, old runners, swimming gear for wearing on water activities (note: a wet suit will also be provided)
Raingear and warm jacket / fleece, warm hat

Beaver’s overnight to Lissadell

Beavers went on a Sleep over to Lissadell last Friday. We all had a great weekend walking trough the woods where they made trail signs and identified various wildlife. On our return to the camp fire we all had a little sing song and lunch. All the Beavers really enjoyed making smores round the camp fire and in the morning we had breakfast and played more games. lots of fun was had by all.

 

Cubs : Slish Wood – Union hike

Hike on Sunday 6th May 2018

Drop off  :Slish Wood at 9.30am

Pick up : Union wood (white gates entrance) at 1.45pm

Each cub should wear

  • Suitable footwear (boots if possible)
  •  warm jacket and waterproof trousers along with warm clothing
  • A  high vis jacket – a short section on either side is along main roads.
  • Bring a Good pack lunch and a drink (hot or cold)
  • Neckerchief
  • Sun cream

The hike is about 9km long and is across countryside
