13th Ballisodare Scout group are now finishing for the summer however there are a couple of important dates for your diary.
1. If you wish to enrol your child for 2011/2012 registration evening will be held on Thursday 8th September 2011(time and venue to be confirmed later). This event is for parents only and will be the only opportunity for enrolment for existing and new members. As usual preference will be given to children of leaders and siblings of existing members as there is a waiting list for each section.
2. There will be an overnight camp on the weekend of 10/11th September 2011 in Lough Keel (beside Lough Key, Co Roscommon). Cubs and scouts as they are at present (before September changes) will go overnight and the current beavers will go for the Saturday. More details nearer the time.
3. As a number of leaders are stepping down or taking a break there will be a shortage of leaders in September, particularly in the Cub section. We would ask each parent to seriously consider over the summer becoming a leader (maybe helping regularly, once a month or just a few times a year). Insufficient adults make it very difficult to run meetings or organise outings. Scouting Ireland is very strict on the ratio of leaders to children particularly in the Cub and Beaver section. Any of the current leaders will be pleased to give information or answer any questions you may have. Full support and training is given to all leaders and you will always be with an experienced leader.
4. Group Leader – Maeve is stepping down as group leader to be more available for Scouts as she is the only female leader in that section, therefore we require a new group leader. This is mainly an administrative role to co-ordinate each section and be a link to county/regional organisation. This would suit a parent who is unable to commit to weekly meetings (need to attend about 4 local meetings a year) and can operate from home, supported by experienced leaders. Please contact Maeve for further information on 071 9130649.
We wish everyone a pleasant summer and hopefully lots of sunshine!
Best wishes from 13 Sligo Ballisodare Scouts.
